Dual-cure and light-cure mechanisms refer to the methods used to initiate the polymerization (hardening) of composite materials. In dual-cure composites, polymerization is initiated by both a chemical reaction (when the base and catalyst are mixed) and optional light activation. Light activation requires a dental curing light along with a light activated photo initiator. Depth of cure is typically 2-3 mm in materials that rely solely on light activation.
